Ludo Schoenmakers

Ludo Schoenmakers is a philosopher and scientist who works at the interface of biology, chemistry, and philosophy. His interests include synthetic biology, origins of life, evolutionary theory, metaphilosophy, and the history of analytic philosophy. After completing a B.A. in philosophy and a B.Sc. in medical biology, he obtained a M.A. in analytic philosophy and a M.Sc. in molecular biology, in each case at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, the Netherlands. He completed his Ph.D. in synthetic biology under supervision of Prof. Dr. Wilhelm Huck at the Department of Physical-Organic Chemistry at Radboud University, the Netherlands. His research at the KLI is focused on the applicability of evolutionary theory outside classical, organismal biology, specifically to the origin and early development of life.
