Biographical note

Isabella Sarto-Jackson holds a Master’s degree in genetics and a PhD in neurobiochemistry. She worked as a wet lab scientist at the University of Vienna, the General Hospital of Vienna, and Sandoz. She was an assistant professor at the Medical University of Vienna and a guest scientist at the Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology in Magdeburg before completing her venia docendi in neurobiology. In 2011, she became the Executive Manager of the KLI. Since then, she has dedicated her scientific work to theoretical research. She is also a lecturer of cognitive science at the University of Vienna; of cognitive biology at the Comenius University, Bratislava; and of biopsychology at the Webster Vienna Private University.

Her research focus lies at the interface of neuroscience, evolutionary biology, and the philosophy thereof as well as cognitive science, and social work education. Her transformative research is dedicated to questions of societal impact by addressing neurobiological vulnerability and mental health issues in infants, children, and adolescents resulting from adverse social environments. She closely collaborates with experts in psychology and pedagogy providing psychoeducation and stewardship for youth at risk thereby tackling crucial societal challenges of future generations.

She is Associate Editor of the journal Biological Theory and has been elected vice-president of the Austrian Neuroscience Association (ANA). A concern of the heart to her is knowledge transfer of neuroscientific insights to neighboring disciplines and to the general public. To this end, she gives public lectures and holds workshops in interdiscipliary settings.
